Is the therapy done on a table, bed or the floor?

Traditionally, Thai massage is done on the floor. Some elements of the practice are being adapted by practitioners more accustomed to working on tables or beds. However, many of the advanced movements and stretches can only be done safely and effectively on the floor.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, loose-fitting yoga or athletic clothes are best to accommodate the twisting and stretching movements in the session. A pair of loose Thai fisherman's pants and a shirt are provided for you.

It is recommended that you experience other types of massage without clothing. Our therapists are professionally trained and will appropriately drape towels or sheets over areas of the body that are not a focus of the treatment.

How long are the sessions?

Traditionally, authentic Thai massage treatments last at least 90 minutes, but can go for several hours.

Why are the sessions so long?

The main objective is energy balancing, so the physical movements become part of a deeper, more meditative spiral of healing that feels increasingly good as time goes by, resulting in a profoundly deep and integrated sense of physical, mental and spiritual well-being for both giver and receiver.

What are the benefits of Thai massage?

Stress relief, revitalization and a euphoric feeling of overall well-being are the words most often used by clients to describe the benefits of their treatment. Physiologically, the body gets re-aligned in a way that increases flexibility and circulation. More subtle harmonizing of energies results in the overall integration of body, mind and soul. We get to remember how good it can feel to be in our bodies.

Is it safe for older people, children, injured or sick people?

Massage work is tailored to each individual, so anyone can safely and enjoyably experience Thai massage, with certain modifications to meet each person’s needs.

How often should someone receive Thai massage?

Initially, I recommend a two-hour session every two weeks, then monthly sessions once the body becomes more flexible. More than a month apart is too long.

Is it ok to eat before/after the session?

Your body will need energy for the massage work. But since an important part of the treatment may involve pressing points around the abdomen, it is better not to eat for an hour before the session.

The healing process continues after the massage, so it is better not to eat, bathe or do strenuous exercise for at least an hour afterwards. Drinking warm water or hot tea is highly beneficial and necessary to flush out toxins released during the treatment.

Where did Thai massage originate?

Thai massage actually originated in India. Some say it grew out of the ancient healing systems practiced in South India in the region now known as Kerala. Later, massage was incorporated into ancient Ayurveda medicine, practiced in the regions that are now Nepal at the time of the Enlightenment of the Buddha. The physician Chivaka Komarapatr, Buddha’s private doctor, is said to have successfully used massage and stretching techniques along with herbal remedies to treat ailments amongst the monks who traveled with the Buddha. Their travels spread Buddhism and these medicinal techniques all over Southeast Asia. He is now known as the founder and Father Doctor of Traditional Medicine in Thailand.

What if I have special health considerations?

If you have high blood pressure, heart conditions, varicose veins, or if you are pregnant, please consult a doctor prior to seeking massage services.

I’m pregnant, can I experience a massage?

We do not recommend that you receive a massage during your first trimester of your pregnancy. We will not perform a massage unless you have a doctor’s note.

Our therapists are not professionally trained in prenatal massage. However, if you want to relax after the first trimester, we recommend a light oil massage without any deep pressure. Avoid massage for the abdomen, lower back and feet. Avoid lying facedown. You can sit or lie on your side and hug a full-length body pillow for support.

What if I’m late for my appointment?

If you are running late for your appointment, a phone call would be recommended. Late arrivals cannot be guaranteed of their time slot. Late arrivals may be subject to an adjusted appointment duration or given away to a standby client. No-shows will be liable for a 100 percent cancellation fee.

Do I have to pay any additional charges?

All prices are net, excluding gratuities.
